Have you ever listened to a song for the first time and thought, “Wow, that’s catchy!” The next day or so you catch yourself humming bits and pieces of the lyrics. Then, once you know all the words, that song just hits you.
The song that did this to me most recently is “Come Alive (Dry Bones)” by Lauren Daigle. You can watch the YouTube video here and below are the lyrics:
“Come Alive (Dry Bones)”
Through the eyes of men it seems
There’s so much we have lost
As we look down the road
Where all the prodigals have walked
One by one
The enemy has whispered lies
And led them off as slaves
But we know that you are God
Yours is the victory
We know there is more to come
That we may not yet see
So with the faith you’ve given us
We’ll step into the valley unafraid, yeah
As we call out to dry bones
Come alive, come alive
We call out to dead hearts
Come alive, come alive
Up out of the ashes
Let us see an army rise
We call out to dry bones, come alive
God of endless mercy
God of unrelenting love
Rescue every daughter
Bring us back the wayward son
And By your spirit breathe upon them
Show the world that you alone can save
You alone can save
As we call out to dry bones
Come alive, come alive
We call out to dead hearts
Come alive, come alive
Up out of the ashes
Let us see an army rise
We call out to dry bones come alive
So breathe, oh breath of God
Now breathe, oh breath of God
Breathe, oh breath of God
Now breathe
Breathe, oh breath of God
Now breathe, oh breath of God
Breathe, oh breath of God, now breathe
As we call out to dry bones
Come alive, come alive
We call out to dead hearts
Come alive, come alive
Up out of the ashes
Let us see an army rise
We call out to dry bones come alive, yeah
We call out to dry bones, come alive
Oh come alive
I know, pretty heavy stuff! This song reminded me of a prayer I’ve been speaking life into. For several weeks I’ve been praying that our nation experience a spiritual revival. I don’t intend for this post to become a political one by any means, but my heart is heavy and uncertain of what’s to come for us.
Aside from my prayer, this song also reminds me to not waste time with goals or promises I’ve made for myself. It’s that time of year where chapters may close and we look forward to the New Year as a new start, but why wait? Why not “come alive” now and go after your dreams today? You may be looking at January as your next play button, but I can assure you the wasted time in December will leave you wishing for the rewind button in the months to come.
Now that we are in full Holiday season, I know that buying gifts and giving to others is probably on your mind right now. Remember the best gift you can give to others is to be the best you possible and then help them do the same. So whether you need a spiritual revival, new dedication to your health and fitness, finding your one thing and passion, or simply doing less so you be more present with others, start now. Come alive.
Best,
